Jenny Macaulay, manager of workforce strategyDartmouth Health will host a Career Expo at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon on Thursday, May 9, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. With nearly 50 exhibitors offering demonstrations and hands-on activities that represent a broad range of career paths, the event is an excellent opportunity for high school and college students, parents, educators, job seekers, career changers and current healthcare workers looking to explore how to start or grow a career in the healthcare industry.
“Last year’s Expo was full of energy—there was a buzz in the air as conversations sparked around all of our interactive activities and demonstrations,” said Carolyn Isabelle, system vice president for talent acquisition and career development. “This year we are introducing a special session earlier in the day specifically for high schools. Some regional schools are bringing students and staff by bus, but all educators and high school students may attend independently, and parents and guardians are welcome to accompany students.”
This is no ordinary career fair—Dartmouth Health’s Career Expo offers attendees an opportunity to learn about and explore career paths, such as engineering and trades, information technology (IT), information systems (IS), supply chain, operations, laboratory science, pharmacy, security, community health, business and healthcare administration, as well as patient care roles such as nursing, radiology, respiratory therapy, telehealth, emergency, care management, and physical and occupational therapy. Attendees will be able to speak with hiring managers and recruiters about open positions within the Dartmouth Health system, and connect directly to learn more around the System’s education opportunities, including paid training programs through Dartmouth Health’s Workforce Readiness Institute (WRI). Representatives from regional colleges and universities, including Colby Sawyer College, the Community College System of New Hampshire, Vermont State University, the Community College of Vermont, Norwich University, Rivier University and New England College, will be on-hand, as will representatives from organizations and grant programs offering resources and funding to support next steps in work or education.
“Exhibitors are excited to share the important role they each play in patient care—whether at the bedside or behind the scenes,” said Jenny Macaulay, manager of workforce strategy and one of the event organizers. “The Expo offers something for everyone—attendees can look at the internal electronics of medical devices with our clinical engineering team, test their dexterity with a laparoscopic Lite Brite® surgical activity, peer through microscopes with our medical laboratory team, see how we are using robots to support operational efficiency and tour the mechanical and engineering facilities.”
The Dartmouth Health Career Expo is hosted by WRI, a registered career school with the New Hampshire Department of Education. WRI offers training and career advancement opportunities through comprehensive training and registered apprenticeship programs that offer full-time employment with benefits, as well as experiential learning opportunities for high school and post-secondary students. WRI is currently enrolling for several career training programs, including medical assistant apprenticeship, pharmacy technician apprenticeship, phlebotomist, surgical technologist, licensed nurse assistant (LNA) and ophthalmic assistant.
