Why I enjoy the pathology program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center

The energy at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is unmatched. From day one, I have been welcomed into a program that prioritizes both excellent patient care and resident education. Program leadership, faculty and outstanding pathologists’ assistant staff understand the unique demands of pathology and foster a supportive environment built on strong fundamentals, individualized teaching, and progressive independence.

What I particularly enjoy is how integrated we are with those who depend on our work. From communicating with surgeons during frozen sections, to speaking with families about autopsies, to providing direct patient care during apheresis, our training emphasizes that pathology is not practiced in isolation.

About me

I earned my bachelor’s degree at Penn State (14th alumni in my family!), followed by a post-bacc in pre-medical studies at Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts. I headed West after my post-bacc and worked for the National Park Service in Yellowstone National Park as an EMS provider and structural firefighter. Following my time at Yellowstone, in the year leading up to medical school, I spent a year doing research with autopsies investigating COVID-19, neurodegenerative disorders, and cancer in New York City.

When there is no snow, I can be found hiking, waterskiing, at the gym, and occasionally surfing. Once snow falls, I’ll be skiing throughout New England and the West. My family is mostly spread around New Hampshire and I am joined in the Upper Valley with my wife, Abigail, and our golden retriever, Griffy.
