Overview

Google's AMIE has matched or exceeded physicians in controlled diagnostic conversations, GPT-4 has passed medical licensing examinations, and Med-PaLM 2 reached expert-level performance on medical question answering. None of those results were obtained at a bedside. This session examines what a language model is doing when it produces a differential, how that differs from clinical reasoning, and the specific ways it fails. The speaker, a practicing clinician who also builds diagnostic AI, runs a clinical vignette live against a model while narrating their own reasoning alongside it.
