Overview

Questions about whether an AI tool works, and who approved it, sit on top of a prior question: what a clinician owes a patient when a machine is involved in their care. This session takes that question directly. It covers informed consent for a system whose reasoning cannot be inspected, justice when training data underrepresents the patients most in need of accurate care, confidentiality when a commercial system sits between clinician and patient, and accountability when a tool is wrong. Dr. Berggren works through deployed tools rather than hypothetical ones.
