Overview

Decisions about which AI tools reach the bedside follow an identifiable sequence: clinical need identification, data collection and training, model architecture, clinical validation, regulatory clearance, deployment and monitoring, performance evaluation, and governance. Dr. Perkins, Chief Health Information Officer at Dartmouth Health, sets out that sequence and names who holds the decision at each stage. She draws on governance experience at Dartmouth Health and Moffitt Cancer Center to show what follows when clinicians are in the room for those decisions, and what follows when they are not.
