Balance and Fall Risk Screening

The free Balance and Fall Risk Screening is designed for adults age 65 and older who want to maintain independence and mobility, while also staying safe. This comprehensive screening brings together rehabilitation and healthcare professionals to identify factors that may contribute to falls and provide personalized recommendations for reducing fall risk. 

The 20-minute screenings will take place during the following time slots:

• 10 to 10:20 AM
• 10:20 to 10:40 AM
• 10:40 to 11 AM
• 11 to 11:20 AM
• 11:20 to 11:40 AM
• 11:40 AM to 12 PM

This class may be for you if you:

• Have experienced a fall or near fall
• Feel unsteady when walking
• Are concerned about your balance
• Have noticed changes in memory, thinking or mobility
• Want to proactively maintain your independence and safety

Participants will receive:

• Vital signs assessment: Blood pressure, heart rate and other key health indicators
• Medical review: Identification of medications or medication combinations, by a pharmacist, that may increase fall risk, dizziness or balance concerns
• Balance and mobility screening: Evaluation of strength, balance, gait, mobility and overall fall risk
• Home safety screening: Assessment of common home hazards and recommendations to improve safety and independence
• Cognitive screening: Brief screening of cognitive functions that may impact safety, judgement and daily activities.

Following the screening, participants will receive recommendations to help reduce fall risk, improve safety and support healthy aging. Referrals for additional evaluation or services may be recommended, if needed.
