Addressing the Spectrum of Alcohol Use ECHO by Dartmouth Health | iECHO
Objective
Scientific understanding of the health effects of alcohol is changing and a better understanding of the risks of alcohol use is needed. Often, unhealthy alcohol consumption goes undetected, particularly when it doesn't rise to the level of a use disorder. Healthcare clinicians must often engage with health issues related to alcohol use, including identification of harmful misuse or alcohol use disorder, avoidance of alcohol-medication interactions, and management of alcohol use and it’s medical and psychological sequelae, among others. This ECHO course will explore the changing societal context of alcohol use, the current scientific understanding of alcohol use and its potential harms, and best practices in clinical management across the spectrum of alcohol-related health issues. All with interest welcome.

Schedule: Every other week starting Wednesday September 9th, 2026 through December 16th, 2026
Who should attend: Primary care providers & teams, behavioral health providers, community health providers, safety personnel, and others in a position to identify and intervene in the spectrum of unhealthy alcohol use those who support the community in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine

Learning Objectives:
After participating in this activity, learners will be able to:
- Explain current scientific understanding of the health effects of the spectrum of alcohol use (from moderate use to AUD).
- Demonstrate appropriate screening and initial management of unhealthy alcohol use in clinical settings.
- Identify Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), including how to appropriately intervene, refer for treatment, and support recovery.

In support of improving patient care, Dartmouth Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Dartmouth Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 8.0 general continuing education credits.
Other Learners: All other learners may claim CME-designated participation credit. Consult your professional licensing board regarding the applicability and acceptance of CME-designated participation credit for programs certified for credit by organizations accredited by Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Education.

Certification Issuance Criteria
A certificate of attendance (non CME/non CNE) is available on request for all our ECHO courses at the end of the course. Just send an email to ECHO@Hitchcock.org requesting a certificate of attendance after the course is over and the team will issue a certificate indicating the title of the course and the number of hours you attended. Note that attendance is automatically tracked by the I-ECHO system so no need for you to provide the hours to receive this certificate.
Accreditation Information
CME and/or CNE hours are available for selected ECHO courses through the DH Continuing Professional Learning Center (CPLD), one hour per full session attended. For detailed information on accreditation, when offered, please go to the I-ECHO site for the course, click the CONTENT tab and scroll down to “CME/CNE Information and Tracking”. This will bring up a CPLD word document with detailed information and a session tracking template. After the course is completed, you can click on “Claim CEs link” at the I-ECHO site under the CONTENT tab which will take you to the CPLD website to complete an online form and submit the number of hours you attended. The “Claim CEs link" will also be put in the Chat during the final session and emailed to you. Downloadable documentation of your credit hours will be available at the site within 30 days of submitting your hours.
