Research Milestones
Congratulations to Pilot Project Leader Christine Gunn on securing an R01 titled Investigating Information Preferences, Risk Perceptions, and Tradeoffs in Multi-Cancer Early Detection Decisions: A Randomized Vignette Trial.
This research will generate the data necessary to create decision aids that prepare patients and clinicians for the increasing availability of MCED tests and promote their ethical implementation in clinical practice. Multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests are an emerging technology with the potential to change how people are screened for cancer. This will be the first experimental study to provide 1) evidence on what MCED test information and detail people need to make high-quality, informed decisions about using MCED tests to screen for cancer; and 2) a qualitative characterization of how MCED testing will be integrated with existing screening tests.
