Our Heart and Vascular Center is leading the way nationally in improving cardiac care and outcomes, focused on a patient population that is older and more rural than most of our peer institutions.
Richard J. Powell, MDDartmouth Health was recently named one of Becker’s Cardiology’s 100 hospitals and health systems with great heart programs for 2026. Honorees were selected for their contributions to setting the standard for cardiovascular care, including institutions such as Boston Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Mass General Brigham.
Becker’s noted that Dartmouth Health’s Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is New Hampshire’s only academic cardiovascular program, bringing subspecialty care to a largely rural patient population. HVC highlights include the program’s Aorta Center, a national leader in minimally invasive surgical techniques for aortic aneurysms; the center’s vascular surgery fellowship, which was ranked first nationally by Doximity in 2026; and an expansion of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center’s heart and vascular unit last year to meet regional demand.
“Our Heart and Vascular Center is leading the way nationally in improving cardiac care and outcomes, focused on a patient population that is older and more rural than most of our peer institutions,” said HVC director Richard J. Powell, MD. “I’m proud that Becker’s Cardiology has recognized Dartmouth Health among the best cardiology programs nationwide and of our HVC team for their commitment to top-quality care for every patient.”
