Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) has received multiple American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® quality achievement awards for Resuscitation and Stroke for its commitment to treating in-hospital cardiac arrest and stroke, ultimately helping to improve survival rates.
The American Heart Association has granted the following Get With The Guidelines awards to DHMC for resuscitation:
- Resuscitation Gold Adult Population
- Resuscitation Gold Pediatric Population
Each year, more than 300,000 adults and children experience an in-hospital cardiac arrest, according to the American Heart Association. Survival from cardiac arrest largely depends on timely medical emergency team response and effective CPR.
For stroke, DHMC received the Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S.
To qualify for Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, hospitals must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster alteplase. Target: Type 2 Diabetes aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.
