Cheshire Medical Center, a member of Dartmouth Health, will start offering a support group for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in late October, aligning with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Domestic and Sexual Violence Support Group is a free and confidential space for healing and personal growth among survivors and others affected by domestic and sexual violence.

The in-person, peer-based group will be held at Cheshire’s main Court Street campus in Central Conference Room 6 every Tuesday from 12:15 to 1:15 pm starting October 21. The group is open to all genders, 18 or older, including Cheshire employees and the general public. Registration is not required.

“This support group provides a safe, confidential space for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to share experiences, connect with others and access resources,” said Kaitlyn Gonzales, Cheshire’s medical forensic care program manager. “Participants will gain understanding, encouragement and a sense of community to support their healing.”

Cheshire is offering this group as part of its Compassionate Care Project, a three-year grant-funded initiative in collaboration with the Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention. The project will expand trauma-informed support for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The support group is hosted in collaboration with Antioch University, facilitated by Lizbeth Duran Oden, a clinical psychology doctoral candidate.
