Dartmouth Health will host a Career Expo on Thursday, May 8, from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, located at 1 Medical Center Drive in Lebanon. With over 30 exhibitors offering demonstrations and hands-on activities that represent a broad range of career paths, the event is an excellent opportunity for high school and college students, parents, educators, job seekers, career changers and current healthcare workers looking to explore how to start or grow a career in the healthcare industry.

"The annual Dartmouth Health Expo is inspirational–if you are looking to start or grow a career with impact, the Expo is the place to come and discover opportunity,” said Jenny Macaulay, Dartmouth Health’s director of workforce development and planning. “Our teams and regional college partners enjoy sharing the technology, the expertise, the research and innovation, the variety and the career pathways. Whether you are already a healthcare worker and are looking for growth and development, a high school student looking for direction as you make plans for after graduation, or someone curious about whether to point your career in the direction of healthcare–the Expo is the perfect place for discovery, ideas and next steps.”

Dartmouth Health’s Career Expo offers attendees an opportunity to learn about and explore career paths, such as engineering and trades, information technology and information systems (ITIS), supply chain, operations, laboratory science, pharmacy, security, community health, business and healthcare administration, as well as patient care roles such as nursing, radiology, respiratory therapy, telehealth, emergency, mental and behavioral health, and physical and occupational therapy.

Attendees will be able to speak with hiring managers and recruiters about open positions within the Dartmouth Health system and connect directly to learn more about the system’s education opportunities, including paid training programs through the Dartmouth Health Career Institute (DHCI).

Representatives from regional colleges and universities including Colby Sawyer College, River Valley Community College, Vermont State University, Community College of Vermont, Norwich University, Franklin Pierce University, Rivier University and New England College will be on-hand, as will representatives from organizations and grant programs offering resources and funding to support next steps in work or education.

“There is opportunity at the Expo for everyone to learn and connect–our exhibitors are excited to showcase what we do,” Macaulay said. “Come tour the mechanical and engineering facilities, practice CPR on a simulation mannequin, talk about the defenses that our IT security team manage every day, look through microscopes, try the Lite Brite® laparoscopic surgery challenge, practice compounding medications, and learn what a hover jack is and how our patient transportation team uses it to safely move patients. Healthcare needs so many different types of skills, trades and knowledge, if you are motivated by working for an important mission then come see us at the Expo and find your path.”

The Dartmouth Health Career Expo is hosted by DHCI, a registered career school with the New Hampshire Department of Education. DHCI offers training and career advancement opportunities through comprehensive training and registered apprenticeship programs that offer full-time employment with benefits, as well as experiential learning opportunities for high school and post-secondary students. DHCI is currently enrolling for several career training programs, including medical assistant apprenticeship, pharmacy technician apprenticeship, phlebotomist, surgical technologist, licensed nurse assistant (LNA) and ophthalmic assistant.

The May 8 Career Expo is free to attend, but pre-registration is recommended. For more information about the Expo and to register, visit dhcareerinstitute.org/careerexpo.
