Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) has again been named by U.S. News & World Report as a 2025-2026 Best Hospital

DHMC ranked regionally as the number one hospital in New Hampshire and was also recognized in northern New Hampshire. Additionally, DHMC was recognized as the best regional hospital for community access, which acknowledges its success in providing high-quality care for patients in communities that are often underserved.

DHMC was also ranked in 15 adult procedures and conditions, which was an increase from the previous year. The additions to this ranking include: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart arrhythmia, pacemaker implantation, stroke and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Additionally, Dartmouth Health member Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital (APD) was also recognized as high performing in hip replacement.

“Whether at our academic medical center, DHMC, or our community and critical access hospitals, like APD, all Dartmouth Health providers share a commitment to the highest standards of care. Our people truly are the reason why Dartmouth Health members are continuously recognized among the nation’s best by U.S. News,” said Joanne M. Conroy, MD, Dartmouth Health’s CEO and president. “I’m very proud of our teams for all they do—they could not be more deserving of this honor.”

U.S. News evaluates hospitals across the country, with nearly 6,000 hospitals evaluated annually. Hospitals are assessed through three main areas of patient care and experience. This includes the outcomes from the care provided, the hospital’s process in following the best standards of care and the hospital structure including its resources and technology.

Earlier this year, U.S. News reported methodology changes for the Best Hospitals ranking and rating process which is reflected in the current results. These changes to the Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions includes a different approach to evaluating composite scores. This includes two new ratings for evaluating both arrhythmia care and pacemaker insertion procedures, as well as an increased emphasis on risk-adjusted outcome measures.
