Matthew R. Foster, MD, MMMDartmouth Health member Valley Regional Hospital announces today a transformative $1 million gift from Michael and Sheila Satzow in support of the new medical office building currently under construction. The gift represents the largest single donation in Valley Regional Hospital’s history and will help expand access to coordinated, patient-centered care for the greater Claremont community.
In recognition of their generosity and longstanding commitment to the region, the new facility will be named the Michael and Sheila Satzow Health Center.
“Mike and Sheila Satzow exemplify what it means to invest in your community,” said Joanne M. Conroy, MD, president and CEO of Dartmouth Health. “Their leadership gift will help ensure that families across this region have access to the high-quality, comprehensive care they deserve, close to home. We are deeply grateful for their vision and generosity.”
The new medical office building will bring together primary care, pediatrics, orthopedics, and behavioral health services under one roof, featuring modern exam rooms, improved accessibility, and coordinated care spaces designed around patient and family needs
Michael and Sheila Satzow are lifelong Claremont residents. Michael is a third-generation leader of the family business that became North Country Smokehouse, a nationally recognized producer of specialty meats and cheeses. When he sold the company in 2015, he ensured that operations would remain in Claremont, preserving jobs and economic opportunity for the community.
Beyond his business success, Michael has dedicated decades to civic leadership and philanthropy. He has served on numerous nonprofit and civic boards, including Valley Regional Healthcare’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee since 2008, the New Hampshire Humanities Council, and the Claremont Development Authority. In 2024, the city of Claremont named its visitor center in his honor.
Together, the Satzows created the Fund for Greater Claremont at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, which has supported local nonprofits providing services ranging from reading mentors for children to domestic violence prevention and free dental care.
“Mike has been a passionate advocate for Valley Regional Hospital for many years,” said Matthew R. Foster, MD, MMM, CEO and president of Valley Regional Hospital. “This extraordinary gift reflects his and Sheila’s deep commitment to ensuring that our community has access to exceptional healthcare. The Michael and Sheila Satzow Health Center will serve generations to come.”
The new medical office building represents a significant investment in community health infrastructure. The facility will offer wider hallways and improved access for patients with mobility needs, modern treatment spaces, and room for the care teams that are essential to delivering coordinated, patient-centered care.
“We’ve been fortunate to build our life in Claremont, and we believe deeply in supporting the institutions that strengthen our community,” said Michael Satzow. “Quality healthcare close to home matters. We’re proud to support Valley Regional Hospital and the exceptional care they provide.
This newly developed relationship between Dartmouth Health and Valley Regional Hospital will enhance the future investment in our community.”
Construction on the medical office building is currently underway, with completion expected in the fall of 2026. The project has been supported by generous donors throughout the region who share the Satzows’ vision for accessible, high-quality healthcare.
