Dartmouth Health has released a new addition to its online healthcare information campaign “The Thread:” a one-page explainer focused on maternal and child health. The resource outlines key programs, partnerships and services designed to support the wellbeing of pregnant people, parents and their newborn children.

“From legislative advocacy to specialized clinical care and community partnerships, Dartmouth Health is at the forefront of maternal care, which is an increasingly critical role, as rural birthing centers across the region are closing,” said Ilana Cass, MD, Dartmouth Health’s chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology. “By sharing how our system supports families in New Hampshire and Vermont, from pregnancy through early childhood, we hope to raise awareness about the types of resources that are available to people, and to showcase the many ways Dartmouth Health is woven into the fabric of the communities we serve.”

The new Thread includes information about Dartmouth Health programs for pre- and post-partum care; perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and post-partum depression; specialized care for mothers struggling with substance use disorder; regional partnerships with collaborative organizations like Families Flourish Northeast; and more. It also has information about Dartmouth Health Children’s inaugural maternal mental health navigator, the first position of its kind at any pediatric practice, hospital or health system in the United States.

The Thread information campaign provides information and resources on several topics such as the economic forces that drive up the length of hospitals stays and other healthcare costs; the existing mental health infrastructure and the persistent areas of need; the unique challenges of rural healthcare; and the benefits of having an academic health system in the state which invests millions of dollars annually in public health initiatives and care for patients who are uninsured, under-insured or unable to pay; and more.

Dartmouth Health invites members of the public to explore The Thread site and submit questions on the topics that matter most to them. New content will be added regularly to reflect current issues and the evolving healthcare and regulatory landscape.
