Once completed, the DHMC Patient Pavilion expansion project will add two new floors to the Pavilion and an expanded 18-bed cardiovascular critical care unit.

The completion of the Patient Pavilion will expand access, improve patient outcomes and elevate the care experience.

Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) recently started initial phases of expanding its Patient Pavilion. On August 6, the medical intensive care unit (MICU) on Level 4 North of the Pavilion was relocated to Level 3 Wing A, which also houses the medical specialty care unit (MSCU). This move allows for the expansion of the cardiovascular critical care unit (CVCC) from 12 to 18 inpatient beds.

“The completion of the Patient Pavilion will expand access, improve patient outcomes and elevate the care experience,” said Tom Manion, MPA, DHMC’s chief operating officer. “The MICU/MSCU co-location and CVCC renovation and expansion are the next phase in the strategic investment Dartmouth Health is making to meet the increasing demand for our services.”

The current CVCC will undergo extensive renovations and upgrades to enhance comfort, efficiency, and the patient and employee experience. The unit is expected to be ready for patient occupancy in December 2025.

Two remaining floors in the Pavilion are also under construction, with that project set for completion in August 2026. The MICU will move to Level 3 Wing B of the Pavilion, putting all MICU beds into a single unit. The Pavilion rooms are specifically designed to meet the care requirements for the delivery of all adult levels of care.
