After smashing records to raise more than $10.2 million to fight cancer last year, northern New England’s largest family-friendly fundraising event is back with its most ambitious goal yet.

The Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center has announced the launch of the 45th annual Prouty, which aims to raise $12 million to support life-saving cancer research and vital patient and family support services at Dartmouth Cancer Center. Registration is now open.

This year, The Prouty expands to eight total events spanning five months. Starting with Prouty Tennis on March 22 in Hanover, NH, Prouty season builds through spring with Prouty Community Walks on May 16 in Manchester, NH, and St. Johnsbury, VT, and Prouty Golf on June 13 in Grantham, NH. The summer signature events feature the Prouty Ultimate on July 10–11, two days of cycling throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, and culminate with the main Prouty event on July 11 in Hanover, where participants can bike, walk, row, or volunteer.

The Prouty’s unprecedented fundraising target of $12 million will be supercharged by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, which has renewed their support with a generous dollar-for-dollar donation match, enabling all Prouty funds to have double the impact for Dartmouth Cancer Center.

"The Prouty means so much to Dartmouth Cancer Center, Dartmouth Health, and the communities we serve,” said Joanne M. Conroy, MD, CEO and president of Dartmouth Health. “The Prouty makes it possible to bring cutting-edge, world-class comprehensive cancer care to patients across northern New England, while driving our passion for groundbreaking research that would not be possible without the support of those who give so generously.”

The Prouty began in 1982 when four Dartmouth Cancer Center nurses, inspired by the courage of their patient, Audrey Prouty, committed to cycling 100 miles through the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In the four decades since, thousands of passionate individuals have come together each year to bike, walk, row, golf, and more to help end cancer. Since its inception, The Prouty has raised more than $78.5 million to support cancer research and patient support services.

“The Prouty fuels hope—and hope is at the heart of what makes Dartmouth Cancer Center so special,” said Pat McBride, director of the Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center. “The commitment of our Prouty community has driven life-altering research, compassionate patient care, and critical support for families and caregivers. This year’s $12 million goal reflects this community’s strength, and we’re confident we’ll come together again to deliver hope to cancer patients and their families across our region.”
