Political determinants of health include the governmental systems, structures, and policies that impact health outcomes. These factors influence individuals’ and communities’ access to healthcare, the quality of the care they receive, and healthcare providers’ ability to treat patients effectively.
On Monday, December 16, the Dartmouth Health Office of Government Relations is hosting a day-long symposium at Saint Anselm College’s New Hampshire Institute of Politics to explore the political determinants of health. Nonprofit and business leaders, state agency administrators, and policymakers will convene to explore policy solutions to critical issues New Hampshire residents are facing. Participants will discuss how laws and regulations influence the health and economic prosperity of Granite Staters.
The keynote speaker for this event is Philip M. Alberti, PhD, founding director of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Center for Health Justice. Participants will then attend two breakout sessions of their choice. Sessions feature subject-matter expert panelists, and topics include maternal health access, youth mental health, housing infrastructure, making quality childcare affordable, and access to the right care at the right time.
New Hampshire Senate and House leadership will also share their policy priorities for the upcoming 2025 legislative session. Legislative leaders will include Deputy Democratic Leader Sen. Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua), House Health, Human Services & Elderly Affairs Vice Chair Rep. Erica Layon (R-Derry), and Democratic House Leader Rep. Alexis Simpson (D-Exeter).
This symposium is free and open to the public. To learn more and register, visit bit.ly/3Z4neZm.
