Marty Purcell, MBA

Martin (Marty) Purcell, MBA, has been a member of Dartmouth Health's management team since 2001, and has served in a variety of leadership positions, including Dartmouth Health's Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, Chief Privacy Officer, and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's Director of Information Services.

In his current role as Chief Information Officer, Marty oversees the Enterprise Information Services division, which includes Information Systems, Health Information Management, Biomedical Engineering, Telecommunication, and mail operations for the systems.

Before joining Dartmouth Health, Marty lived in Western Massachusetts, where he held a number of positions at Baystate Health Inc., which included the Director of Corporate Business Services, Assistant Vice President of Information Services, Associate Director of Strategic Planning and Program Development, and Senior Management consultant. At the same time, Marty supported early research on mortality predictions of patients in intensive care units. He served as a trustee on several community boards like Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Western Massachusetts district of the Boys Scouts of America. He also co-chaired the annual Children's Miracle Network Telethon of Western Massachusetts for 10 years.

Appointed to his current role in October 2019, Marty focuses on consolidating, integrating, and standardizing information services across Dartmouth Health. Marty has always had a strong interest in enabling healthcare providers and their support staff to use emerging technologies to assist them in making better clinical decisions for their patients.

With over 30 years in healthcare management, Marty has had the chance to work with some of the pioneers in healthcare productivity management, healthcare planning, system building, and integration. He also had the unique opportunity to collaborate with some of the earliest developers of EMRs and align with several prominent healthcare software vendors in a co-development arrangement that led to the development of an international demonstration site for their products.

Marty holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Systems Administration, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology/Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut, and a Master of Business Administration from Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. He lives with his wife and two sons in Hanover, New Hampshire.
